Curious about the Outdated Job Titles the Social Security Administration is Dropping from Its Analysis of Whether Disabled Applicants Can Find “Other Jobs”? Read On Here

SSDisability

Many Michigan Social Security Disability applicants have likely heard the recent news that the Social Security Administration is making major changes to the Social Security Disability process that may make it easier for some applicants to ultimately get Social Security Disability benefits. According to CBS News, the Social Security Administration announced in late June that it will remove a number of outdated job titles from The Dictionary of Occupational Titles, a jobs database that the Social Security Administration uses to determine whether there are jobs in the economy that a disabled applicant could hypothetically do, despite their physical and mental limitations. Critics of the outdated Dictionary of Occupational Titles, Social Security Disability applicants, and Social Security Disability advocates are hailing the new changes as a win for disabled individuals and applicants, as it will give them a fairer shake at obtaining important Social Security Disability benefits. But what jobs has the Social Security Administration decided to eliminate from the Dictionary of Occupational Titles? We answer that question here.

Social Security Administration Picks Outdated Jobs to Remove from Jobs Database Used to Determine Social Security Disability Eligibility

The Social Security Administration announced that it will drop a total of 114 occupations from The Dictionary of Occupational Titles. This means that Social Security Administration administrative law judges and decision makers cannot deny an applicant Social Security Disability benefits by referencing any of the outdated and eliminated jobs as a basis for denying Social Security Disability benefits. According to CBS News, these jobs include, but are not limited to: canary breeder, character impersonator, directory assistance operator, historian of the dramatic arts, motion-picture projectionist, news wire-photo operator, radiotelegraph operator, reptile farmer, and watch repairer. As many Michigan Social Security Applicants can see from the list of titles being removed that these jobs are scarce, if at all available, in today’s modern economy, and, accordingly, should be phased out to give Social Security Disability applicants a fairer shake at the process.
